TRIBAL LAW

Tribal Law Attorney

Tribal Law Attorney — Reno, NV — the Law Offices of Charles Zeh Law Offices Esq
Tribal law is primarily the practice of law in tribal courts. The Indian tribes of this nation are sovereigns with many of the rights and powers of nation-states. Indian tribes generally have a constitution and code of law which governs the operation of the tribe, tribal lands and people living on the reservation or colony. Further, the federal government has extensive involvement in and responsibility for Indian Tribes. Accordingly, the practice of Tribal law involves an understanding of working with sovereign entities, their laws and the federal statutes and regulations which apply to Indian tribes. It is imperative that one understands tribal sovereign immunity. One proceeds at one’s peril without such an understanding.

Knowledge of tribal law is required to practice in tribal courts and for transactions with Indian tribes. Our firm has a wealth of experience in this area. We have negotiated contracts for tribal clients, practiced in many areas of law in tribal courts and represented tribes in federal courts when we have successfully defended tribes in matters involving employment, land use governmental elections, commerce and tribal police. See, Boney v. Valline, 597 F.Supp.2d 1167 (2009).
